That Friday Music Shuffle (19.7.19)

by Rick Johansen

Summer’s here and the time is right for…er…getting out your umbrella. Or, alternatively, it’s time for the Friday Music Shuffle where my portable device chooses ten songs at random from my collection and I tell you what they are. I’ll bet you just can wait!

So, all the way from my Man Cave, let’s rock!

  1. Heavy Petals by Laura Veirs. Some gorgeous alt country/folk music by the wonderful Ms Veirs from her 2018 record The Lookout.
  2. Satisfy Me by Albert Hammond. A nice gentle rocker from Albert’s Revolution of the Heart LP. He’s not the Albert from the Strokes but he is Albert’s dad.
  3. Angelica by Lamb. Perfect chill out music.
  4. Hanging on a String by Loose Ends. High class, old school British R&B from way back when (1984).
  5. Do Me, Baby by Prince. 1982. 1982!!! This song is from Prince’s 1982 album Controversy. Of course, it’s wonderful.
  6. Warrior by Warrior. Old school Techno, here.
  7. Need A Taste Of Love by the Doobie Brothers. Instantly recognisable and totally brilliant Doobies.
  8. Big Time by Rick James. Some excellent Motown (is there any other sort?).
  9. Gymnopedie No 1 by Francis Poulenc. Literally, the music from the Fry’s Chocolate Cream ad (one for the kids, here).
  10. Old Town by the Corrs. The greatest Corrs’ song of all time, albeit written by Phil Lynott, from their Unplugged record. Brother Jim might be an anti-vax, conspiracist nut job but the sisters, especially Andrea, more than make up for him. This is beautiful.

That’s all, folks.
