Goodness, is it Friday already? Then, it’s time for the much-loved (by me) weekly music shuffle. My portable mobile device also holds all my music and here I set it to play at random and I tell you what comes up. How exciting.
Anyway, here goes. Let’s rock!
When You’re Ugly by Louis Cole (feat. Genevieve). An absolute belter from the best album of 2018, Louis Cole’s Time.
In The City by The Eagles. Although this says The Eagles, this is Joe Walsh being backed by the Eagles. From The Long Run.
Winter Song by Lindisfarne. From their 1970 record, Nicely Out Of Tune, many consider this to be Alan Hull’s finest song. Hard to argue.
It’s Okay To Change by Field Music. Another one from the North East of England, this from Field Music’s excellent album Plumb.
Begging You by the Stone Roses. It’s quality, as ever, and it’s on Second Helping.
Jackie by Scott Walker. Simply magnificent from the great Scott Walker, released in 1967. Written by Jacques Brel and Gérard Jouannest, it’s wonderful OTT and suited to Walker’s epic voice.
The Message by Sammy Hagar. A cracking hard rocker from Sammy’s 2000 album Ten 13, featuring the excellent Vic Johnson on lead guitar. My favourite hard rock singer of all time.
The Song Is Over by the Who. Classic from their finest album Who’s Next. Townshend handles the verses and Daltrey the chorus.
The Last Laugh by Mark Knopfler. This one features Van Morrison on vocals and comes from Knopfler’s brilliant Sailing to Philadelphia LP.
Developed by Nitin Sawhney. A beautiful short from his excellent Prophesy album.
