Thank Eff it’s Friday and here we are, yet again, hidden away in my Man Cave, letting my old iPod play ’til its heart’s content.
Welcome back, my friends, to the show that never ends!
1. A Higher Place by Royksopp. Some Norwegian magic from the Melody AM record.
2. Under the Boardwalk by the Beach Boys. Live at the Paramount, but only just. Not a career highlight, just about saved by Carl and Al, but only just about.
3. Diners Only by the Avalanches. Beautiful madness from the Aussie electronica geniuses.
4. He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother by the Hollies. Allan Clarke’s greatest moment in music in this gorgeous song written by Bobby Scott and Bob Russell. Whilst they wrote it Russell was dying of blood cancer, but they managed to complete it, making the song even more poignant.
5. Tracks of my Tears by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles. In my view, the greatest Smokey song of all time.
6. I Got A Rock by Graham Nash. From his less than stellar Innocent Eyes record, it just goes to prove anyone can have a bad day in the office.
7. El Foral by Santana. Superb. Sit down late at night with a glass of something red and turn the lights down.
8. Milkshake by Kelis. Mint.
9. Flying Cloud by the Doobie Brothers. If you were to hear this instrumental, you would never in a million years guess this was the Doobies. From their magnificent What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits record.
10. Darling Lorraine by Paul Simon. Of course it’s great.
That’s all, folks!
