As the schools break up for summer, summer turns to autumn in Britain, as usual.
Just to brighten/darken your day, here is the Friday Music Shuffle live from my Man Cave.
Welcome my friends to the show that never ends!
1. Wham Bam Thank You Mam by the Small Faces. The Small Faces before they lost the Small, lost Steve Marriott and gained Rod Stewart. This was surely by far the best version of the Faces, Small or otherwise.
2. Mamma Mia by Meryl Streep. From the joyous movie of the same name, here’s Meryl. Bless.
3. Universe at Work by the Roots. From the epic Illadelph Halflife LP. Was this really released back in 1996?
4. Schoolboy Crush by the Average White Band. Far from Average, the colour doesn’t matter and you have one of the great largely blue-eyed band in history.
5. Trouble in Paradise by the Souther, Hillman, Furay Band. Catchy band name, eh? Some old Byrds and a close friend of the Eagles play the title track of their eponymous country rock album.
6. (Shake Shake Shake) Shake Your Booty by KC and the Sunshine Band. Harry Casey (KC, geddit?) and his disco chums belt out a timeless beauty from 1976.
7. Hell’s Bells by AC/DC. This one comes from their epic live album from around 100 years ago (at a guess). Brian Johnson at his raspy best here.
8. Love Song by Lesley Duncan. Lovely tune from the late Ms Duncan, featuring some thunder and rain.
9. Run! Christian Run! by the Super Furry Animals. It couldn’t be any other band. This is from their wonderful Rings Around the World record.
10. Natural Mystic by Bob Marley and the Wailers. From the mighty Exodus album, this is simply wonderful.
That’s all, folks!
