It’s Sunday evening, I’m on the patio of our holiday house here in Brac and – sod it – let’s have a random music shuffle. This is where I allow I let my music system choose 10 tunes at random, after which I tell you what they were.
So, in my improvised Man Cave, clutching a can of ice cold Staropramen, let the music play!
The Lavishments of Light Looking by WOKE feat. George Clinton. From the brilliant Brainfeeder X compilation, here’s some top notch jazzy hip hop.
‘Til I Die by the Beach Boys. Arguably, Brian Wilson’s finest song. A highlight among many highlights on Surf’s Up.
Beyond the Sun by the Coral. Superb from their album Distance Inbetween.
2+2=5 by Radiohead. Well, it’s perfect. Apart from the arithmetic, of course.
I Can Hear The Grass Grow by the Move. I need no persuasion to describe Roy Wood as one of Britain’s greatest songwriters, musicians and performers. Wonderful.
Domingo Echao by Los Amigos Invisibles. Simply wonderful from Venezuela’s finest band, this comes from their finest record, Arepa 3000.
A Beginner’s Guide to Destroying the Moon by Foster the People. These boys don’t begin and end with Pumped Up Kicks. This, from Supermodel, is lush.
One Chance by Modest Mouse. From their album Good News for People Who Love Bad news. No Johnny Marr on this one but a great chunk of rock and roll, nonetheless.
Fasten Your Seatbelts (live) by Pendulum. Truly wonderful – what would you call it? – dance rock (?) from the chaps from their Live At Brixton Academy LP.
Baby I Need Your Lovin’ by Michael McDonald. The greatest blue eye of them all from his Motown 2 record. It’s gorgeous.
