That Corfu random iPod shuffle

by Rick Johansen

Beneath the Ionian skies, I took my iPod to my old friend Gr*nt B*ckley (for it is he) and asked him to press my magic shuffle button. I figured that somewhere within the 13.5k songs on the list, there would be some tunes he might enjoy. No jitter music, no prog rock; just some stuff he might regard as “decent”. I am not sure it worked out too well.

So, now it’s the Corfu music shuffle – all my music – but set in motion by a great man who could be an ex friend after this.

Welcome my friend to the show that never ends. Ladies and Gentlemen, live from Corfu – let’s rock!

1. Drift Away by John Kay. John Who? If I tell you John Kay, lead singer of Steppenwolf, with a cover of an old Dobie Gray classic from his album My Sportin’ Life, would it help? No, I thought not.

2. Foreplay/Long Time by Boston. How about a 7 minute plus bit of prog rock from their eponymous first album, Boston?

3. Lose Yr Frown by Electric Soft Parade. Now this IS good, isn’t it? Brighton’s finest with a cracker from their American Adventure LP.

4. Carrie Anne by the Hollies. From 1967, mostly written and sung by Graham Nash.

5. My Love by Paul McCartney and Wings. Yes, dire, I know. This should not be on my iPod. Sorry.

6. Miranda by Fleetwood Mac. Plenty of Lindsey Buckingham action going on here from the Say You Will album.

7. Showdown by the Doobie Brothers. Still making music after all these years, this from the mighty Brotherhood record.

8. Let the Heartaches Begin by Long John Baldry. The man was tall and boy could he sing.

9. Evil Walks by AC/DC. I mean, For Those About to Rock We Salute You, what an album, unless you are not an AC/DC fan. And in this case…

10. Ashes and Fire by Ryan Adams. Title track from Ryan’s stellar album of the same name.

And that’s all, folks! ***winces at likely reaction***
