My Top Three – The Stranglers

Dedicated to Jet Black whose death has just been announced.

So, how about a top three of a band from whom I don’t own a single record, but probably should?

Back in 1977, I was walking on the beaches (in Paignton) looking at the peaches, whatever they were and I thought: I like that tune. I’d better buy it. I didn’t and it’s probably just as well because it’s not in my Stranglers top three.  However, these are.

1. European Female. Yes, I know the band have had far bigger hit records than this, but IMHO this is one of their very best tunes.
2. Skin Deep. Hugh Cornwell is wonderfully menacing in this video and it’s just about the perfect Stranglers tune, apart from the one above.
3. Something Better Change. Probably my favourite upbeat tune from their catalogue. Maybe I should check out their back catalogue?
