Monday Music Shuffle 12/12

by Rick Johansen

I can only imagine how much you missed last week’s random iPod music shuffle whilst I was loafing on a sun bed in Lanzarote.

A few days late but still live from my man cave, here are ten tunes.

1. Behind the Sun by the Good, the Bad and the Queen. What could possibly go wrong with a band comprising of Damon Albarn, Tony Allen, Paul Simenon and Simon Tong? Nothing, as it turns out.

2. What Do You Do by the Proclaimers. Sunshine on Leith was released in 1988. I can’t believe that. Could have been written yesterday.

3. God Damned by Girls. From the mighty album ‘Album’, classic Girls, who aren’t girls at all.

4. He Ain’t Heavy, He’s my Brother by the Hollies. If you have time, check out how this song came about. And listen out for Elton John on piano. Probably the band’s finest post Nash tune.

5. Belong by REM. The Out of Time long player has some jolly good tunes on and this is one.

6. Mi Corazon by Fun Lovin’ Criminals. From the excellent Livin’ in the City album, this finds Huey on fine form.

7. Letter Never Sent by REM. Michael and the boys again today, this time from the Reckoning album.

8. Moby Dick by Led Zeppelin. The live version from The Song Remains the Same. A very busy Bonzo here.

9. Something 4 the Weekend by the Super Furry Animals. The excellent Furries with a track from Fuzzy Logic.

10. Here’s Looking at you, kid by Gaslight Anthem. Bruce Springsteen’s favourite young upstarts with a cut from the ’59 Sound LP.
