Live from the man cave, it’s the Friday music shuffle (2/9/16)

by Rick Johansen

Worried I might forget my Friday music shuffle? Of course you weren’t. But here it is anyway.

Self-indulgence rules!

1. Am I Safe by Ryan Adams. One of the great talents is our Ryan, though not always in terms of naming his albums. The one this comes from ‘Ryan Adams’. It’s brilliant, mind.

2. Someone to lay down beside me by Linda Ronstadt. Me!

3. Cafe de Flore by Dr Rockit. No, nor me, but the internet says (so it must be true) that the cafe is one of the oldest coffee houses in Paris. Proper chilled this one.

4. The Great Pretender by Freddie Mercury. Blame she who must be obeyed for this horseshit appearing on my iPod at all. Some of the worst music ever made.

5. Two Can Play That Game by Bobby Brown. A big step forward from New Edition where Brown began his career at the age of nine. This is a great pop record.

6. Hello by Take That. From the Greatest Day Live, I think this is rather sweet.

7. The Locomotion by Little Eva. Carole King and Gerry Goffin wrote this tune, recorded in 1962, for Eva who was their babysitter. True story!

8. Joy Ride by the Killers. From 2008’s Day and Age. Not sure they will ever be this good again.

9. This Given Line by the Electric Soft Parade. Brighton’s finest and most criminally underrated band. This from Holes in the Wall. Why are they not huge?

10. Hounds of Love by the Futureheads. Slightly bonkers version of Kate Bush’s slightly bonkers tune.
