I’m nothing if not generous. So, two days before the official music shuffle is inflicted on a world that’s not really waiting, I have bowed to non existent pressure and will now unveil a music shuffle from my better half, Jonesy.
She was flying from Alicante to Bristol today and allowed her iPhone to play a random series of tunes. And here they are.
White Lines by Grandmaster Flash. Want to listen to a tune all about cocaine, addiction, and drug smuggling? Well, here it is!
Road to Nowhere by Talking Heads. If anything sums up our country to day, it would have to be the title of this classic from David Byrne.
Love Theme from Bladerunner by Vangelis. Classic tune from former prog rocker Evángelos Odysséas Papathanassíou. Obviously, I knew how his full name and in no way looked it up.
Things Can Only Get Better by D:Ream. “We can but hope,” observed Jonesy. She’s right.
Brothers In Arms by Dire Straits. Classic Knopfler from back in the day.
We Are The People by Empire of the Sun. Wonderful Aussie electronica.
Rock the Casbah by the Clash. The Shareef don’t like it but by Christ I do.
London Calling by the Clash. Well, it’s mint, innit?
On An Island by David Gilmour. From his album of the same name, this little belter is made even better with added David Crosby and Graham Nash on backing vocals.
Baba O’Riley by the Who. From their epic Who’s Next? record from rock’s golden year, 1971. In the subsequent 48 years, they have never got near making an album as good as this and this tune is my personal Who highlight of all time.
They Gotta Quit Kicking My Dog Around by Terry Hall and Mushtaq. (BONUS TRACK). No Jonesy playlist could not include her favourite Tel, from the album The Hours of Two Lights.
Time of Our Lives by Pitbull feat Ne-Yo. (BONUS TRACK). This one is for son number two.
