It’s Friday again, just in case you hadn’t noticed. I’m back in my man cave with the music turned up loud for the iPod shuffle top ten for all you pop pickers out there. Well, just me, actually.
1. Baby I’m For Real” by Michael McDonald. What a blistering start from the best blue eye of them all on his Motown Two album, this little beauty written by Marvin Gaye and Anna Gordy Gaye.
2. Sunshine’s Better by John Martyn (Talvin Singh remix). Sitting at the Cafe del Mar in Ibiza, drinking a cold one, the sun going down.
3. Life Is A Long Song by Jethro Tull. I’ve got the EP for this one, up in the loft where it will probably remain forever, unless we win the lottery and buy a bigger house!
4. Rubber Bullets by 10cc. One of the great bands of the 1970s.
5. You’re the Best Thing by D:Ream. Forgot I had this. It’s on an anthems compilation long player. Things can only get better (than this).
6. Walk On By by the Average White Band. More great blue eyes.
7. This World Has Music by the Average White Band. A triple dose of blue eye soul today. How can they be Scottish?
8. I Can’t Wait by Stevie Nicks. Unmistakably Ms Nicks, but performing a song with no tune.
9. My Sweet Lord (2000) by George Harrison. Bizarre demo or out take (it’a bad enough to be either) from the updated All Things Must Pass album, a record which means a lot to me because one of the last times I saw my dad before he died he was playing the vinyl version of this.
10. Street Guru (Part One) by Nitin Sawhney. A little gem from Prophesy.
That’s all, folks!
