Okay, my working week ended yesterday but this lot is to accompany the end of yours, although it’s best not to go through the list if you are driving. A bit dangerous, like.
That’s where the music takes me.
1. Wednesday’s Child by John Barry. Apparently, according to tinternet, this is the theme From “The Quiller Memorandum”. I am none the wiser, but an interesting start to tonight’s shuffle.
2. Done Me Wrong Alright by the Sweet. Proper rock tune written by the boys, with a decent riff, too.
3. Goodbye by Lindisfarne. From the obscenely underrated Roll on Ruby, replete with false ending.
4. Fieldworker by Crosby and Nash. Very obviously a Nash tune from the excellent Bittersweet long player. Levon Helm and Russell Kunkel on drums, Ben Keith on slide guitar, Tim Drummond on bass and David Lindley on guitar.
5. Many’s the time by Mark Moraghan, The scouse doctor who used to be on Holby City sings on this Nicky Campbell song from the Moonlight’s Back in Style record. Sounds mad but boy it works.
6. Trouble by Coldplay. Didn’t know I had any Coldplay but it turns out I do, tucked away on the Chilled II album. I find the angst more than a bit grating, as I do Coldplay’s general AOR demeanour. It’s okay, though.
7. What’s The World Coming To by Fleetwood Mac. Classic Lindsey Buckingham singing and guitar playing, with the glorious Stevie Nicks on background vocals. Say You Will is the (fine) record from which this comes.
8. Urban Train (vocal edit) by DJ Tiesto. See? I can keep up with da yoof sometimes. Actually, I know sod all about Mr Tiesto, least of all what his initials DJ stand for but he seems a good sort. This is from a Dave Pearce Anthems record.
9. Promise Her Anything by Tom Jones.I didn’t know I had this either, but apparently it’s the theme from a film of the same name starring Warren Beatty. And it’s crap.
10. Spectacular by Graham Coxon. Unmistakably, the voice and guitar of Blur’s axeman. This is from Happiness in Magazines. Good stuff.
