Epic scenes at Twickenham stadium this evening as thousands of young people queue for their COVID vaccines. There is something strangely moving about seeing so many people, most aged under 30, doing the right thing. There are also some wrong ‘uns present. I should not give them publicity, but I will.
As soon as news got out that there was loads of Pfizer available for immediate use, people made their way to Twickers, as the rugby union folk call it. Also in attendance were various anti-vax fruitcakes and loons, loudly trying to persuade people to not have the vaccine.
I understand, from a person who is literally there that the protestations are having no effect. The anti-vax people are yelling out the usual anti-science nonsense, saying how these people are having ‘poison’ injected into their systems, also describing them as ‘sheep’, as expressing your free will to get a vaccination is the sort of thing your average flock of sheep choose to do.
It’s all noise. The anti-vaxxers shout loudly and aggressively trying to intimidate people and as anyone who has been shouted out loudly by various extremists, it can feel a little awkward. But shouting abuse is all they have. They do not have the benefit of knowledge or the understanding of science. Just conspiracies and lies.
So this is a good news story in which bad people are failing dismally in trying to make it a bad news story. More of this, please.
