Eighteen years

by Rick Johansen

My God, 18 years since 9/11. 18 years and yet it still seems, if not yesterday, then the day before yesterday. Thousands murdered by 19 islamic fascist maniacs who thought somehow their evil acts would see them in Paradise, with countless virgins to keep them company. But speaking of maniacs, here comes David Icke.

The former BBC snooker presenter has today, with impeccable timing and poor taste, published a new book called The Trigger, which is about 9/11, and in which he asserts that Tower 7 was brought down by a controlled explosion. It was all a conspiracy says Icke, presumably in cahoots with the lizards who control the world. As the man has shown on countless occasions, you can’t argue with a sick mind.

I have no idea why loons like Icke cannot accept the evidence that Tower 7 was not brought down not by a controlled explosion but by fire. He is asking us to believe that all governments throughout the world, plus every single journalist on the planet, has covered up ‘the truth’. It is simply nonsense. And here’s why: governments leak.

President Bill Clinton was caught out after being found to have been given – how shall I put this? – oral pleasure in the Oval Office. He tried to lie about it but the evidence was irrefutable. There were stains on the pleasure giver’s frock. The cover up did not succeed. And neither could a cover up on something substantially greater.

And, in keeping with Icke’s modus operandi, his new book is published on 9/11, just to pile on the distress and misery of those who were affected by the worst terrorist attack on American soil. It’s tasteless, it’s cruel; the man is a horrible little toad. What’s more, he believes in things that are not true.

Conspiracy theories exist because some people can’t believe simple truths. The twin towers can’t have brought down when commercial jet aircraft flew into them, even though they did. The evidence is clear. A bunch of maniacs hijacked four planes and crashed them. It is no different from the nonsense people come out with about the moon landings being faked or the Duke of Edinburgh arranging the death of Princess Diana. It may be more fun to imagine something more mysterious happened but – guess what? – if you can’t come up with evidence then you do not deserve to be believed.

My thoughts are with the families and friends of those who were murdered in 2001. I am not interested in barking mad alternative theories. The truth is based on evidence. You can dispute the evidence but please try to do that first before making up other stories. Okay, Mr Icke?
