The Saturday Playlist

16th December 2023

by Rick Johansen

Just for a change, how about starting the day with a shuffle that comes from my playlist called, amusingly, favourites? From over 17,000 songs, I have curated a playlist that comprises over 150 of my all-time favourite songs and whether you like it or not, here it is.

As ever, you just have to click on the song title and find out what floats my musical boat more than anything else.

Hope you like it.

  1. And The Colour Red by Underworld. 2023 Underworld and just as good as any Underworld, ever.
  2. Theme From A Summer Place by Percy Faith. Back to 1959 for a gorgeous song which just says summer, literally.
  3. The Hurt by Cat Stevens. Always my favourite Cat song.
  4. Inspector Norse by Todd Terje. Simply magnificent from the Norwegian DJ.
  5. Sunset by Caroline Polachek. Best gig I saw last year was the wonderful Ms Polachek in Bristol. Here’s why.
  6. Black Or White by Michael Jackson. Just his best song with an amazing video.
  7. All Alone In The End Zone by Jay Ferguson. The former Jo Jo Gunne (who?) man with the title track of his best record.
  8. Night by Louis Cole. The current bookies’ favourite song to accompany my coffin as it heads to the oven.
  9. The Promise by Girls Aloud. Yes, really. A truly great pop record.
  10. Paradise Circus by Massive Attack Feat. Hope Sandoval. Remember Idris Elba as Luther? Then, you’ll know this.

Today’s Desert Island Disc? Are you having a laugh? All of them and more.

Hope you found something you liked!

Ciao, baby.
