The Friday Music Shuffle (10th April 2026)

by Rick Johansen

Hi pop pickers and welcome to my weekly music shuffle. It’s that fun place where my music device selects ten songs from my collection and I tell you what it’s chosen. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, and I hope you do, is to click on each song title and listen to the music.

I hope you find something you like.

  1. It’s A Beautiful Day Today by Moby Grape. Apparently, the band were known for psychedelic rock. I think this tune from 1969’s Moby Grape ’69 is just a lovely piece of music.
  2. Baloney Again by Mark Knopfler. Unmistakably Knopfler from his excellent 2000 LP Sailing To Philadelphia. The lyric is all about racial inequality.
  3. Pueblo Man by Hermanos Gutiérrez. This is quite gorgeous from 2022’s El Bueno Y El Malo.
  4. What’s Eatin’ You by Airbourne. From 2007’s banging rock album Runnin’ Wild, the loudest band I ever heard live. They have two songs: a fast one and, like this, a slow one. Very AC/DC.
  5. Keep Away From Me by Graham Nash. Quite the lowest point in Nash’s career, formulaic dross from 1986’s dire Innocent Eyes album. Time to delete.
  6. Coda by Michael Head and the Red Elastic Band. Arguably, Britain’s most underrated singer/songwriter, from his outstanding 2024 album Loophole.
  7. Can You Hear What I’m Saying by Toto. Featuring a new lead singer, Jean Michel-Byron, this first appeared on the compilation album Past To Present 1977 to 1990. I love the song and if you want an introduction to Toto, then look no further.
  8. Spanish Moon by Little Feat. Cracking tune from their great 1978 album Feats Don’t Feel Me Now.
  9. Going-To-The-Sun-Road by Fleet Foxes. Their album Shore made lockdown in 2020 a little more bearable. Love them to bits.
  10. The Way You Look Tonight by Frank Sinatra. Absolute classic from 1964, featuring the Nelson Riddle Orchestra.

Come on, now. Where else do you get Airbourne and Frank Sinatra on the same page?

Tough call but this week’s Desert Island Disc is Can You Hear What I’m Saying by Toto.

Thanks for listening. Have a good week till next week
