Greetings pop-pickers and welcome to a very special nearly midsummer’s day special edition of everyone’s favourite music shuffle.
Yes, it’s that time when my music device selects ten random songs from my collection and I tell you what it’s chosen. All I ask you do is to click on each title, listen and maybe even sing along.
I hope you find something you like.
- Life Is A Carnival by The Band. We start back in 1971 with a joint from The Band’s long player Cahoots. Nice.
- Crimes Of The Heart by Waxahatchee. Absolutely love Katie Crutchfield’s little band, not least when it includes the great MJ Lenderman. From 2024’s outstanding Tiger’s Blood.
- Cold Blooded by Overmono. More excellence, this from 2023’s LP Good Lies.
- Aurora by Mike Oldfield. Rather lovely, from the great man’s 2008 Music Of The Spheres LP.
- It Broke My Heart by The Proclaimers. Now we go back to the boys’ 1987 album This Is The Story. Not one of their best, but okay.
- I Didn’t Mean To Hurt You by Spiritualised. Let It Come Down, from 2001, is my favourite of Spiritualised’s albums. Here’s why.
- Birds by Linda Ronstadt. Lovely version of the Neil Young tune, from her eponymous album of 1972.
- Days Are Numbers (The Traveller) by the Alan Parsons Project. From 1985’s Culture Vulture, this beauty features the golden tones of the great Christopher Rainbow. Please, please dig deeper into the late Mr Rainbow’s catalogue. He’s a forgotten genius.
- Rush Hour by Jane Wiedlin. A truly great pop record from way back in 1988.
- Laredo by Leon Bridges. Absolutely gorgeous from the great man’s 2019 debut record, Leon. Class.
Easy Desert Island Disc this week: former Go-Go Jane Wiedlin and her magnificent Rush Hour.
Decent, that. Have a good week till next week.
