The Friday Music Shuffle (7.7.23)

by Rick Johansen

Hi pop pickers and welcome to the weekly music shuffle. Ten songs from my collection, chosen at random by my music device. If you want to listen, or even sing along, then just click on the title.

Let’s go!

  1. Land Of 1000 Nights by Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush. The great Jimi Hendrix impersonators with a track from 1975’s Strange Universe. I love it, mind.
  2. Teen Archer by Blue Oyster Cult. Back to 1973 for a belter from their great long player Tyranny and Mutation.
  3. 76 AKA The Slow Train by Lemon Jelly. Back to 2005 with a track from the excellent ‘64-95‘ album.
  4. Consolation Prizes by Phoenix. One of my very favourite bands with a cracker from 2006’s It’s Never Been Like That.
  5. I’ll Find My Way Home by Jon and Vangelis. Blimey – 1981 for this classic from their essential album The Friends Of Mr Cairo.
  6. Lucky by Radiohead. 1997 for this tune from OK Computer.
  7. Little Fluffy Clouds by The Orb. Gorgeous ‘ambient house’ as music buffs call it. And it is.
  8. Goin’ Back by Nils Lofgren. From the great man’s eponymous debut record of 1975, I now find this is a Goffin/King song. Impossibly, I like it even more now.
  9. Crowded Rooms by Baxter Dury. At last we move into 2023 with a track from his fantastic brand new album I Thought I Was Better Than You.
  10. Fortune by Midlake. A criminally underrated band, this is from their superb 2010 album The Courage Of Others.

This week’s Desert Island Disc is the exciting number eight tune, Goin’ Back by Nils Lofgren.

Have a good week until next week.
