Good day and welcome to the penultimate Friday Music Shuffle off the summer of 2024. Here’s what happens.
My music device chooses ten songs from my collection and I tell you what it’s chosen. Then, I ask you you to click on the title and listen, and even sing, along.
I hope you find something you like.
- All Over Again by Steve Mason. A lush joint from 2023’s excellent Brothers And Sisters.
- It’s So Hard by John Lennon. Great bluesy track from the Imagine album, released in rock’s greatest year, 1971
- Dixie Chicken (live) by Little Feat. Extended version of the Feat classic from their epic live album Waiting for Columbus, one of the great live albums, released in 1978.
- True Colors by Cyndi Lauper. I’m not a massive fan of Ms Lauper but I have to say that this song is truly gorgeous, the title track from her 1986 album.
- The Donald by A Tribe Called Quest. Brilliant, from 2016’s We got it from Here… Thank You 4 Your service, featuring Busta Rhymes and Jack White. I so loved Phife Dawg.
- You Can Call Me Al by Paul Simon. It’s 1986 and Simon has released arguably his greatest solo record Graceland. And the video, with Chevy Chase, is my favourite music video ever.
- The Lee Shore by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Live version of this David Crosby belter from 1971’s 4 Way Street.
- Elenore by The Turtles. Back to 1968 for this all time classic.
- Past Lives by Real Estate. Some lovely jingle-jangle guitar, mixed with lush harmonies, from 2014’s Atlas LP.
- Children Of The Stars by Paolo Nutini. I’ve become very fond of the prodigiously talented Paolo. This from 2022’s excellent Last Night In The Bittersweet.
Flip of a coin Desert Island Disc this week. I’m going for the live version of Dixie Chicken by Little Feat.
I can’t begin to tell you how much I enjoyed that. I hope you did, too.
Have a good week till next week.
