The Friday Music Shuffle (15.11.24)

by Rick Johansen

Hi pop pickers and welcome to this week’s Music Shuffle. We’ve only got 15 days of autumn left so let’s try to keep warm by tapping our feet along with some music.

My music machine chooses ten random songs from my collection and I tell you what it’s chosen. Please click on the song title to listen to the music.

I hope you find something you like.

  1. These Boots Are Made For Walkin’ by Nancy Sinatra. Back to 1965 for this great song, written by Lee Hazlewood. The video is something else …
  2. Tour De France by Kraftwerk. And now back to 1983 for another classic.
  3. The Name Of The Game by Abba. Yes, really. I love Abba, especially the blonde one. Benny, wasn’t it? ;o)
  4. I Guess by Mitski. Gorgeous joint from the American songstress’s 2022 long player Laurel Hell. Short and very sweet.
  5. You Can’t go Home by DJ Shadow. A scarcely believable 22 years old and still brilliant. From The Private Press.
  6. Silence (Airscape Mix) by Delerium (sic). Classic Trance.
  7. The Everlasting by Manic Street Preachers. Opening track from 1998’s This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours. Nice.
  8. Empire Waste by North Atlantic Oscillation. Fog Electric was one of 2010’s best albums and this is one of the best tracks on it.
  9. Whatever Did I Do To You? by The Hives. Now we return to 2023 for a cracking track from one of the albums of the year, The Death Of Randy Fitzsimmons.
  10. I’m Telling You Now by Freddie and the Dreamers. Crikey – this must be on one of my sixties compilations. 1963, mind.

Well, that was interesting. This week’s Desert Island Disc is Empire Waste by North Atlantic Oscillation.

Hope you enjoyed it. Have a good week till next week.
