Once again, the Mail on Sunday sinks from the gutter back down into the sewer with its front page spread featuring a large photograph of aid worker David Haines, dressed in orange with his hands tied behind his back, and a masked man who the newspaper refers to as Jihadi John.
Moments later, we now know, Haines is viciously beheaded. What is it with this Jihadi John business?
It’s inconceivable that even the Mail On Sunday could refer to such a bloodthirsty psychopath in terms that are almost affectionate, but to give him a nickname like that – well, it surely can’t be right?
It almost places a cloak of respectability on the most heinous of individuals, that he somehow has a just cause (Jihad) and he is one of us (John). There’s nothing respectable about this murderer, there can never be an excuse for the evil murder of an innocent man and he most certainly isn’t one of us.
As Brits, we feel particularly bad that the killer shown on these videos is British, especially now that he is killing his fellow citizens. These young men fighting with islamic state come from all round the world and there are more French fighters than there are British but hearing that London accent makes me wince.
Prime Minister Cameron called a meeting of COBRA this morning which I guess he had to do, if only to give the impression to the outside world, as well as those at home, that he is doing something. Scotland’s cabinet did the same thing but isn’t it really symbolism? There is nothing about IS that Cameron, Salmond and the security services didn’t know yesterday but I understand why the meetings were called. It goes with the territory of leadership. We are in control, we are doing something.
It is possible that Haines could have been released had Britain paid ransoms, as other countries do, but I support Cameron in not going down that road. Pay these fanatics money and they will invest it in even more weapons as they terrorise the middle east. Who’d have thought Al-Qaeda would seem to be mere pussycats alongside this lot?
The Haines family must have seen this coming for many months and the recent murders of James Foley and Steven Sotloff must have given them nightmares as to what would soon be happening to them.
These people thrive on the publicity and notoriety and the Mail’s lazy apportioning of a nickname to a vile murderer must make these people smile with delight.
After all, we’re not talking about one of the good guys here.

These murderers and let’s be honest that is what they are regardless by what name they use today or tomorrow thrive on the media to spread their hate and ideology to the masses through splashy headlines, pictures and of course trendy nicknames only help to glorify the horror.
The spread of Islam throughout the world is rampant to the point that it will soon be the number one religion of the world, yet not all are extremists. The radicals appear to be centralized to the Middle-east, this is where the free worlds focus should be. This is a war that will be expensive on many levels, financially, morally and in lives. Yet, it is an undertaking the free world must undertake if it expects to survive into the next century.
The numbers that make up ISIS are religious fanatics, disenfranchised youth seeking to glorify themselves and plain old thugs and bullies. When they have encounter a determined force many have turned and run, some to the point that they wish to return home to their adopted homeland. A united front by the world and I include China and Russia in this effort would appear to be the best and only options available. There can be no second thoughts in this battle it has to be all or nothing. The use of the most formidable weapons in the arsenal should not be ruled out of the equation because the enemy will undoubtedly use them should they get the chance. This may well be WW III as foretold by prophets and soothsayers, so let’s win it without question or doubt!
