He’s a terrorist, not a Beatle.

by Rick Johansen

Here we go again. Jihadi John is back in the news again. How lovely that a bloodthirsty terrorist is accredited such an affectionate nickname by much of the media. But now we know his real name. He is Mohammed Emwazi.

Meanwhile, Asim Qureshi, the research director of the London-based campaign group Cage, refers to Emwazi as ‘a beautiful young man’, which must come as a surprise to the family and friends of those who have been either murdered by him or watched him gloating before someone else was killed. What is the matter with us? Even the BBC are at it tonight, with their Jihadi John nonsense, referring to fact that Emwazi and several of his murderous friends were known as The Beatles. I seem to remember the real John from The Beatles was quite keen on peace. Does anyone remember some of his more favourite tunes? Imagine? Happy Xmas (War Is Over)? Give Peace A Chance? Ring a bell? Obviously not with the headline crazy media these days.

I read that the security agencies in this country and America are not amused that his name has been revealed. I am not sure why this is. Perhaps it is because they are worried that his family might be attacked? No one is living at the address he was at in the UK, haven’t been for a good while, so it’s safe to assume that his family has been moved to a safe house. I don’t have a problem knowing his name. I think it’s better to know it’s a bog standard muslim name than some happy-go-lucky psychopath who gets his kicks, not on Route 66, but by hacking innocent people to death.

Emwazi isn’t a hero. He’s the exact opposite of a hero. Someone like Alan Henning, murdered for the heinous crime of wanting to help people, was more of a hero.

I read that one of this apologists from Cage blamed MI5 for radicalising Emwazi. Really? MI5 are to blame? I don’t think so. It’s pretty obvious he was on their radar for very good reasons. Look what happened next. And there was more. Treat people as outcasts and they behave like outcasts. Well, no. Integrate with society, don’t try and create a new one, maintain your religion and your culture, provided both of them fit in with our society and all will be well.

He’s not Jihadi John. He’s Mohammed Emwazi and he isn’t very nice.
