Welcome to another random selection from my own little random jukebox, the iPod shuffle.
And here we go:
1. I Believe In You by Kylie Minogue. From my favourite Kylie album – the Best of Kylie Minogue – comes this little belter, only slightly marred by the ludicrous American accent she adopts for singing. I’ll let her off.
2. Why do you try so hard to hate me? by the Electric Soft Parade. Brighton’s finest with a cracking tune from their 2002 long player Holes in the Wall. What a proper rock band should sound like.
3. But Not For Now by Field Music. Oh this is good. Great band, this song from the Commontime album.
4. Island in the Sun by the Bee Gees. No Kenny and Dolly, but instead a “live” version from the wonderful One Night Only long player from 1997. This is £3 everywhere you look, kids, so don’t miss it.
5. Slip on Through by the Beach Boys. The opening track on the band’s best group album, Sunflower, written and sung by Dennis Wilson who was beginning to blossom as a great writer and singer.
6. I Wanna Be Around/Workshop by the Beach Boys. From the Smile Sessions, this is a little experimental, shall we say, with all manner of strange activities in the foreground, like someone sawing something.
7. Everest by Public Service Broadcasting. Truly original, truly brilliant. Inform, educate, entertain is the name of the album and they do just that.
8. The First Cut is the Deepest by PP Arnold. Great version of a Cat Stevens classic. PP has a stellar music CV.
9. Smokin’ with the Motherman by the Stereo MCs. Old school (British) hip hop.
10. Stop, Look, Listen to your Heart by Michael McDonald. From his Motown record, here’s the best blue eye in the business at the top of his game.
