I am not one to believe in conspiracy theories, always preferring, where possible, to make judgements on the basis of facts and evidence, but I have a question: do modern commercial jets simply fall out of the sky? They don’t usually, not of their own accord. The Metrojet Airbus A321 took off from the Sinai Peninsula’s Sharm el-Sheikh to Russia, reached 31,000 feet and then plunged to the ground, killing all 224 passengers and crew.
An islamic terrorist group called Wilayat Sinai has claimed they brought the plane down. They are apparently linked to ISIS who themselves made the following statement: “The fighters of the Islamic State were able to down a Russian plane over Sinai province that was carrying over 220 Russian crusaders. They were all killed, thanks be to God.” Thanks be indeed. Actually, I am not terribly convinced that an imaginary celestial dictator was responsible for the mass murder of 224 innocent people, but I am concerned that there are plenty of people who think it just might be true, that the “fighters” were the ones what done it.
It is a fact, though, that Wilayat Sinai has carried out a series of suicide murders and attacks on the authorities. We are told that they do not have the weaponry to bring down an aircraft at such a height, although a number of airlines, including Lufthansa, have decided not to fly over the Sinai Peninsula until the facts have been revealed. This suggests that they are not entirely convinced that this was an accident. I have absolutely no idea why the plane crashed but we need to be very clear about this. Air travel is very safe these days and planes do not usually, as I say, just fall out of the sky.
An aircraft is usually at its most vulnerable during take off and landing. You could argue that this flight was still in the climb phase, but it would be very near the cruise. There is not much that can go wrong on a modern jet and even if it does go wrong, there are plenty of fail safes in position to avert a major problem.
Everyone has leapt to a conclusion. It was definitely not a terrorist act, it definitely was. We’ll find out soon enough. The authorities have already found the Black Box. The evidence will be there. As long as they remember to tell us.
This smells smelly to me. Ex KBG thug Putin has already committed Russian armed forces to attack ISIS (and anyone else he sees fit) and defend Assad and this was a Russian plane full of Russians, flying over an islamic country.
An act of terrorism, an act of war or simple mechanical failure. Take your pick. I may be way out of line but I can’t believe it’s all a big accident or coincidence. The conspiracy theorists have not gained a new convert but I am as cynical as hell about this.
