A double disaster for the village on the first day of June as both sides crashed to heavy defeats.
The first team contrived to lose heavily at home to Barrow Gurney.
They kept the visitors to a mere 218 runs despite dropping a village record nine catches. Jack Burton deserves a special mention for managing to drop three of them all on his own.
Immediately, wickets starting tumbling in the Gifford reply as the so called stars gave their wickets away one by one.
Only Henry Winterman and Nigel Nesnahoj scored any runs, 18 and 17 respectively.
The Gifford were all out for a miserable 104.
Jack Burton scraped a couple of runs at the death but not before a wretched display of umpiring when he gave Winterman out caught behind even though the bearded youngster hasn’t got within three feet of the ball.
“I give what I see,” said Burton, as he was driven off to Specsavers.
Meanwhile, the seconds were boosted by the appearance of Martin Black.
Batting first at Chipping Sodbury, the village managed to accumulate around 156, the highlights of which were 80-odd from red-faced legend Paul Long and 30-odd from veteran Mark Stephens.
The highlight was an inspired one by the exciting Calum ‘Call me Calum’ Meaney before he once again threw his wicket away.
In a nail biting finish, Sodbury scraped in by a mere seven wickets with just 15 overs to spare.
