22 January Friday Shuffle

by Rick Johansen

That’s where the music takes me, with the Friday morning iPod shuffle.

1. Breakfast Can Wait by Prince. From Art Official Age, love Prince.

2. Peaceful Easy Feeling by the Eagles. Appropriate in the week Glenn Frey departed, the first thing I ever heard by the band.

3. Bernie’s 3rd Christmas by Lisa Mychols. It’s a Christmas song. Oh well. Lisa’s Lost Winter’s Dream always worth listening to.

4. Mercenary by Todd Rundgren. He’s still got it. The reasonably recent Arena record is great.

5. Stayin’ Alive by the Bee Gees. The One Night Only album is everywhere now, greatly reduced, and it’s well worth it. This is a live version of the classic.

6. Going Down by Sammy Hagar. For me, he’s still up there with Robert Plant as the greatest rock singer of all time.

7. Again here by Largo. On one of my many Ibiza chill out records. Now where’s my sun bed?

8. Oh My Heart by REM. From their last and very excellent album Collapse Into Now.

9. I’m Not Your Steppin’ Stone by the Monkees. Still think this is the best version. Mickey Dolenz at his shoutiest best.

10. Ecstacy by Lou Reed. Need I say more?
