The new hate figure

by Rick Johansen

The Labour Party’s new ‘hate figure’ is not quite who I expected it to be. Not a Blairite or a Brownite or whatever they called Ed Miliband (I called him not as good as his brother, but there you go), but an author called JK Rowling. You might have heard of her.

You see, JK is a genius who has worked very hard at her craft. Her books have introduced thousands, maybe millions, of children to books and so improved literacy across the land. In doing so, she has made herself very rich. Her writing career has been a wonderful success story. These are not words that fit in well with the modern day Labour Party.

Despite the fact that she gave Labour £1 million not that long ago, Corbyn’s trendy middle class media outriders are denouncing her. Of course, they are. JK is successful, she has made lots of money, she pays all her UK taxes, she gives generously to good causes (and the Labour Party). Plus the fact that JK comes from the mainstream Labour tradition and not the far left of the Magic Grandpa Corbyn and his puppet-masters in the party. All these things – success, earned wealth, support for mainstream socialism – do not fit in with Labour’s new race to the bottom.

In so attacking JK Rowling, the Corbynistas attack the aspirations and ambitions of your own children who you will want to be successful in life, to be able to afford the good things (like somewhere to live, for example) and, yes, to be comfortably off. One of Corbyn’s outriders said that Labour was now for the millions, not millionaires, and that will sure be Magic Grandpa’s view, too.

Never mind that the owner of Momentum, the hard left party within a party, Jon Lansman is a millionaire, or that our de facto PM Seumas Milne came from a seriously wealthy family who ensured he got the finest education money could by, or Shifty Shami Chakrabarti, who is probably not having to scrape by on her last 50p, or Diane Abbott who sent her son to private school presumably to avoid the riff raff or so many of his ‘top team’ who have enjoyed privilege but don’t want anyone else to enjoy it.

Perhaps, part of the hatred being directed at JK is jealousy and not a bit more is pure misogyny. She’s an easy target and there is nothing the comrades like to do than attack an easy target. Sadly for them, JK is made of sterner stuff.

Labour is already an unwelcome place for Jews and now those who are successful and wealthy are not welcomed either. However, if you are an anti-Semitic EU hater, you will be warmly welcomed into the fold. I’ll give them a miss for now, thank you very much.
