As we enter the final month of the meteorological summer, and because it’s Friday, it’s time for the weekly music shuffle. My music device chooses ten random songs from my collection and I tell you what it’s chosen. Click on the title to listen and I hope sing along.
I hope you find something you like.
- Wild Situation by Dennis Wilson. From the late Beach Boy’s unreleased album Bambu, I love it. He was a huge talent.
- Mothership Reconnection by Scott Grooves. Daft Punk, obvs and great. That bassline, mind.
- Keep On Chooglin’ by Creedence Clearwater Revival. Superb version from their album Creedence Clearwater Revival Live at the Albert Hall 1970.
- Going Places by Teenage Fanclub. Back to 1995 and a gorgeous joint from the Grand Prix album.
- Wrap Around Joy by Carole King. Title track from a great Carole album from 50 years ago. Lush.
- SMiLE by DOMi and JD Beck. From 2022’s Not Tight record, this is mint.
- Papa Gene’s Blues by The Monkees. Back to 1966 and a track from The Monkees’ eponymous first album, written by Mike Nesmith and featuring Glen Campbell on guitar
- Je T’Aime by Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin. Some musical soft porn. Reached number one in the UK in ’69. (See what I did there?)
- Scion by Matthews Southern Comfort. Lovely tune from Ian Matthews and his band from around 1970.
- Mr. Bad Example by Warren Zevon. Title track from his brilliant 1991 album. Genius.
This week’s Desert Island Disc is the exciting number ten tune, Mr. Bad Example by Warren Zevon.
That was fun (for me) Have a good week till next week.
