Greetings everyone. It’s Friday, in case you hadn’t noticed. I had because I’m supposed to be at Bristol Airport today, flying with my family to Dubrovnik. Thanks to COVID-19 and Boris Johnson’s disastrous handling of it, we’ll be lucky to be flying anywhere next year, never mind this. Anyway, enough of this. Let’s have some music.
On Fridays, I set my 21st century music machine to play ten tunes at random. Then, I tell you what they were. So, without further ado, let’s rock!
- Living For The Weekend by Hard Fi. These chaps had a brief brush with fame with their excellent Stars of CCTV long player, from which this tune hails.
- Rover Deep Mountain High by the Supremes and the Four Tops. The Supremes without Diana Ross was like the Four Tops without Levi Stubbs. Luckily, this 1970s cover does indeed feature the great man.
- Stay Away by Nirvana. Pounding rocker from Nevermind.
- Throw Back The Little Ones by Steely Dan. From the Dan’s Katy Lied, this beaut features Elliott ‘Reelin in the years’ Randall on guitar. My favourite band ever.
- The Bends by Radiohead. From The Bends album which came out in…gulp…1995.
- I Know What I Know by Paul Simon. From Simon’s just about perfect Graceland LP.
- In A Little While (N.O.W. remix) by U2. I have this one on a Café del Mar compilation album and it fits perfectly.
- Sunshine by the Avalanches. Typical Avalanches mixing and matching tons of samples to make something new and brilliant. From their Wildflower album.
- Le Voyage De Penelope by Air. Everyone should own a copy of Air’s brilliant Moon Safari.
- Epie by Röyksopp. Trust me, you will know this tune from their Melody AM record.
That’s all, folks!
