That Friday Music Shuffle (22/6)

by Rick Johansen

Good grief: the sun it shines on a Friday and it is set to carry on shining for the foreseeable future. So, what better time to disappear to my Man Cave, lit up by a single bulb with no lamp shade, showing all the cobwebs and spiders’ webs, to set my iPod to shuffle and see what tunes appear.

Here, then, for your lack of enjoyment is my Friday Music Shuffle.

Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends.

1. Africa by Toto. An absolute banger from 1982, the lyrics of which still sound as barking mad as they did back in the day.

2. The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down by the Band. Given the amount of new music I’ve been buying just lately, the iPod is still stuck firmly in the past. But what a past.

3. I Ain’t Never by the Blue Ridge Rangers. Well, actually the Blue Rangers are John Fogerty who plays and sings everything.

4. 108 Battles (of the mind) by Kula Shaker. Very fond of young Crispian and the boys, especially after seeing them play live last year.

5. Jelly Jelly by the Allman Brothers Band. Classic blues from the Brothers and Sisters album that gave us Rambling Man and Jessica.

6. Let Forever Be by the Chemical Brothers. From their Surrender album, a belter from the geeky boys.

7. Send One Your Love by Stevie Wonder. This one comes from my favourite Wonder album, the Definitive Collection.

8. Nerve by Jordan Rakei. From his simply magnificent Wallflower album. Every home should have a copy.

9. Super Trouper by Abba. From the sublime to the ridiculous? I always fancied the blonde one. Benny, wasn’t it?

10. Mellow Down Easy by Little Feat. From their last and probably final album Rooster Rag, here’s some classic Feat.

That’s all, folks!
