That Friday Music Shuffle (17.1.20)

by Rick Johansen

Anyway, winter is coming to an end. There’s barely six weeks to go until spring and that’s why, obviously, we are about to have a cold snap. Whatever. It’s warm here in my Man Cave and it’s going to get even warmer as I unveil the tunes my music system is going to play at random to a world that isn’t waiting.

Yer goes. Let’s rock.

  1. If You Wait by London Grammar. Lush song from their 2013 debut album If You Wait.
  2. In Time by Zero 7. Gorgeous little tune from their 2004 long player, When It Falls.
  3. The Look Of Love by Gladys Knight and the Pips. Passable Motown cover of the Bacharach/David classic, made famous by the magnificent Dusty Springfield.
  4. Cowgirl In The Sand by Neil Young and Crazy Horse. Absolute classic.
  5. Receptacle For the Respectable by the Super Furry Animals. Brilliant from Gruff and the chaps from the Rings Around The World album, which I love.
  6. Easy On My Soul by Bad Company. Paul Rodgers is, in very simple terms, the greatest rock singer of all time.
  7. Hang On by Teenage Fan Club. One of Scotland’s finest bands, this from the Thirteen album.
  8. Drivin’ With Your Eyes Closed by Don Henley. This is from Henley’s stellar and star-studded 1984 solo album Building The Perfect Beast, which also gave us The Boys of Summer.
  9. Reasons (Saturday Night) by Faithless Feat. Ian Dury. As good as you might expect and an excellent reason to the cheerful.
  10. Angela by Toto. Final track on Toto’s first album in 1978, which was titled Toto.

That’s all, folks!
