According to the nicotine-stained man frog Nigel Farage, “People who are on antidepressants are being told they are victims and when people are told they are victims they’re likely to think they are.” Under a Reform Party UK Ltd government, says the Fagash Fuhrer, “there’s gonna be a big change of culture“. What on Earth is he on about?
I’ve been ill with clinical depression, with added anxiety, all my life, and I’ve been on antidepressants for longer than I can remember. No doctor, or anyone else for that matter, has told me I’m a victim, although it would help if Farage, who to the best of my knowledge, has no expertise in the mental health department, could tell me what it actually means. Of course, he won’t because it doesn’t mean anything at all. To quote someone from threads, “This is more uninformed and ignorant anti equality, diversity and inclusion from Farage.”
Us mental people have had to put up with this kind of shit forever. There is a long history of people, usually on the right of politics, who claim that mental illness isn’t a real thing. The then prime minister Rishi Sunak said in 2024: “We are in danger of over-medicalising the everyday challenges and worries of life”. His DWP secretary Mel Stride added: “As a culture, we seem to have forgotten that work is good for mental health. While I’m grateful for today’s much more open approach to mental health, there is a danger that this has gone too far. There is a real risk now that we are labelling the normal ups and downs of human life as medical conditions which then actually serve to hold people back and, ultimately, drive up the benefit bill.” God, this makes me SO angry.
It reminds me of all the shit I used to hear, that I should just “snap out of it“, “pull (myself) together” and “be grateful for (I’ve) got“. I had that from work managers, any number of seriously unpleasant random others and even the odd family member. But I was never a victim, never felt remotely that way. I was a clinical depressive, diagnosed by an actual Mister, not just a doctor, in a psychiatric department. I was, I am, ill.
Farage, Sunak and Stride know what they are doing, know what they are saying. In Farage’s case, he probably thinks poor mental health really doesn’t exist, that we’re just snowflakes, unable to cope with, as Sunak put it, “the everyday challenges and worries of life”. These three privately educated, filthy rich cunts who have no idea about the lives of the working class people they wilfully demean.
The people I knew, who took their lives after being overwhelmed by demons in their heads. What about them? They were victims, all right. Not because anyone told them they were, making them believe it. They were desperately ill, victims of society. People who demean the sick are the lowest form of life and Farage is definitely among the lowest form of human life.
The scumbags will know in their heart of hearts – if they have hearts, which I am not sure Farage actually does – that actually mental health really is a thing, whether someone is suicidal, just a bit low or like most of us somewhere in a very big centre ground. (For what it’s worth, I’m closer to the severe side than the minor side but a combination of family and friends love, combined with the antidepressants Farage so detests, I have survived. That’s my biggest mental health achievement, arguably my one and only achievement in life.)
I apologise if you were offended by the use of the word ‘cunts’ when it came to describing Farage, Sunak and Stride, but I don’t regret using it. Because that is what they are. How else would you describe an illness that claims so many lives and wrecks so many more?
Imagine being described as a victim but an establishment stooge like Farage, born into wealth, privately-educated, used his connections to find lucrative work in the city, owns five homes and is a multimillionaire who only recently received, and failed to declare, a £5 million bung from one of his dodgy supporters.
As we say, hate is a very strong word. I am not afraid to say I truly hate the likes of Farage and wish only bad things upon him. And that’s not me saying that because I’m ill. It’s me being level-headed and honest. It’s time that people stood up to these people. And despite my miniscule following, that’s what I am doing today.
