The Friday Shuffle 6/11

by Rick Johansen

It’s time for the Friday shuffle. What music will appear on my Friday random jukebox?

1. Happy Talk by Captain Sensible. Very silly, great fun. Once saw the good Captain propping up a bar in Devon.

2. Walk Away by Nitin Sawhney. From the gorgeous Prophesy album.

3. Long Gone by the Super Furry Animals. Slightly bonkers, beautiful music; from Fuzzy Talk.

4. How Far by Stephen Stills. Easy to forget how good Stills’ solo stuff has been. The Manassas album and band of that name was definite career highs.

5. For Me and My Gal by Al Jolson. Just an incredible voice singing great songs.

6. Nite Klub by the Specials. Nuff said!

7. Finally by Fergie. No, not Sir Alex. This is from The Duchess (not Jimmy Savile’s mum). This album was sneaked onto my iPod without my knowledge nor permission but for all that it’s very nice.

8. All She Wants To Is Dance by Don Henley. The Eagle almost does blue eye soul music sometimes. This isn’t one of the sometimes but the man can really sing.

9. Sonrie by Gloria Estefan. From her beautiful album Standards, this is Smile (though your heart is breaking) sung in Spanish. Charlie Chaplin wrote the music, believe it or not.

10. Wooden Boat by Take That. Jason Orange’s finest moment in Take That; nice song, daft lyrics, well sung.
