The Friday Shuffle (4/12)

by Rick Johansen

For the undiscerning listener, here is my Friday morning random iPod shuffle. Enjoy! (Or is it endure?)

1. Gamemaster (Michael Woods Remix) by Lost Tribe. Let’s begin with a track from one of my Dave Pearce Anthem’s records.

2. The Plastic Age by the Buggles. No apologies for loving the Buggles. I thought the Living In The Plastic Age album was excellent!

3. Do It Good by K C and the Sunshine Band. From their finest album – the Best of KC and the Sunshine band (!) – comes this unmistakable KC sound even if the song is not one of the Big Hits.

4. Bel Amour by Bel Amour. Need I say more? Probably, but I don’t know anymore. It’s on an Anthems compilation.

5. (You make me feel like a) Natural Man by Rod Stewart. Yes, really. The Carole King classic with full sex change. Not a career high point but his voice was much stronger back in the day.

6. Willie and the Hand Jive by Eric Clapton. What on earth can Slowhand be singing about?

7. Lose Yourself To Dance by Daft Punk, featuring Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers. Perfect.

8. Blue Lines by Massive Attack. Classic Trip Hop from the album of the same name.

9. Won’t Get Fooled Again by The Who. How is this 45 years old? At their peak, a great track from Who’s Next.

10. The Everlasting by the Manic Street Preachers. And so to end this week’s musical trip comes this absolute beauty from Blackwood’s finest.
