To celebrate the coronation of a bloke who is already king, Charles Windsor, it’s time for a special royal edition of the Friday Music Shuffle. So, pop-pickers, for this week only, my music machine chooses 10 random tracks from my collection and I tell you what it’s chosen. And if you want to sing along, then just click on the titles!
Let’s do a royal rock!
- World by The Bee Gees. Totally weird Brothers Gibb taking us back to 1967. Great though.
- Cheek To Cheek by The Sensational Alex Harvey Band. Here, barking mad Alex sings the Irving Berlin classic. So good.
- Victim Of Love by The Eagles. Eagles music is still hard to find on You Tube but here’s a live version. Original recording on 1976’s Hotel California.
- Down On The Corner by Creedence Clearwater Revival. John Fogerty greatness from 1969’s Willy and the Poor Boys long player.
- Star by Beck. A belter from 2019’s Hyperspace album. One of his best records.
- In My dreams by Crosby, Stills and Nash. Gorgeous Croz track from 1977’s CSN. Harmonies to die for.
- Three Hours by Nick Drake. The desperately talented singer songwriter who died so young, this comes from 1969’s Five Leaves Left.
- Alone by Toto. Released in 2020, this track comes from what will almost certainly be the band’s last album, Old Is New. Pretty decent, actually.
- Graze by Animal Collective. From 2009’s Fall Be Kind album, this is seriously great experimental pop, as we are supposed to call it. Love Panda Bear’s vocals.
- Then I Close My Eyes by David Gilmour. Lush instrumental from the Floyd man’s 2006 album, the excellent On An Island.
Mt Desert Island Disc this week is the exciting number four tune, Down On The Corner by Creedence Clearwater Revival.
Anyway, have a decent coronation, folks. Here’s my favourite song about Kings. It’s called Kings and it’s by Steely Dan.
That’s all, folks!
