Greetings pop pickers and welcome to the Friday Music Shuffle – 10 tunes from my collection, chosen at random by my music device, and I tell you what it’s chosen. And if you’d like to listen or even sing along, just clock on the song title.
Let’s get ready to rumble!
- Thank You by The Strawbs. Remember Assembly in Primary School, well this is what this song from 1973’s Bursting At The Seams record reminds me of. Bonkers and brilliant.
- Black Milk by Massive Attack. Fantastic track from 1998’s epic Mezzanine album, featuring Cocteau Twins singer Liz Fraser.
- Just Another Night by Cat Stevens. From the 1978 long player Back To Earth, this was Cat’s last record under the Stevens name before returning as Yusuf Islam. Very good of course.
- Out Of The Sinking by Paul Weller. I prefer pretty well all Weller’s solo stuff to his work with The Jam and this is one of my favourites. The guitar on this is fantastic.
- White Trails by Chris Rainbow. One of the most underrated singers and musicians ever. He had a terrible stammer which disappeared when he sang. This 1979 Beach Boys soundalike was better than most of the stuff the Beach Boys were making at the time. If you ever see this album (White Trails), buy it.
- Barefoot In The Head by A Man Called Adam. God, this is so good and it was released in 1990, something I can hardly believe.
- Streamline by Pendulum. Epic drum and bass from the Aussie drum and bass band, from 2007’s excellent Hold Your Colour album.
- When The War Is Over by Lindisfarne. Alan Hull wrote some great songs but few better than this. It’s from the band’s 1973 album Roll On. Ruby.
- Boxes by David Crosby. I so miss Croz who left us only a short time ago. This, from 2021’s For Free album, showed he was still at the top of his game.
- Broken Anyway by Ryan Adams. From 2017’s Prisoner, this is up there with his best.
Very tough to choose my Desert Island Disc this week but I’ve decided to go with When The War Is Over by Lindisfarne by short head.
Hope you enjoyed it. That’s all, folks!
