Hello, good morning and welcome to the Friday Music Shuffle.
If you can stand the excitement, it’s that time of the week where my music device selects ten songs from my collection. Obviously, I listen along ‘live’ and, should you wish to do the same, just click on the song title one by one and you can join me.

- Forged in Hell and Heaven Sent by Drive-By Truckers feat. Margo Price. Excellent start with a joint from 2022’s Welcome 2 Club XIII.
- If You Insist by Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit. And now former Drive-By Trucker Jason Isbell with a great song from his 2023 LP Weathervanes. This guy is touched with genius.
- Tumbling Dice by the Rolling Stones. And now we go back to 1972 for a quite magnificent tune from Exile On Main Street. Classic Stones at their very best.
- Reeling by Say She She. Brilliant from 2023’s Silver. Is Piya Malik the best looking woman on the planet? Maybe.
- God Bless The Child by Bobbie Gentry. Written in 1939 by Billie Holiday and Arthur Herzog Jr, this fantastic version first appeared officially on Gentry’s fabulous 2018 album The Girl from Chickasaw County, although it was widely available on bootlegs long before then. Lush.
- Section by The Roots. Back we go to 1996 with a banger from Illadelph Halflife.
- Ballad Of Mott The Hoople by Mott The Hoople. 1973 now with this beauty from Mott.
- Long Train Runnin’ by the Doobie Brothers. 1973 again and a classic from the Doobie’s finest album The Captain And Me.
- How Far by Stephen Stills. Stuck in the 1970s and who cares when the music is as good as this? From 1973’s superb Manassas LP.
- Comparsa by Deep Forest. Title track of the band’s eponymous 1997 album. Ground-breaking music.
