What? The Friday Music Shuffle on a Thursday? I’m afraid so. Due to foreseen circumstances, we’re going a day early this week and here’s what you’re going to get. A Big Autumn Special.
Yes, autumn, or as I call it winter, is here and to commemorate the fact, my music machine will choose ten random songs from my collection and I’ll tell you what it has chosen. All you need do is click on the song title and listen, or even sing, along.

- All Around the World or the Myth of Fingerprints by Paul Simon (feat. Los Lobos). Back we go to 1986 and the final track from the great man’s seminal Graceland album.
- Deadlier Than The Male by The Walker Brothers. And now it’s 1966 again for the Walker Brothers who were not, of course, brothers or even called Walker. But Scott had some voice.
- Circles by Bob Mould. The main man from the wonderful Hüsker Dü with a banger from his 2005 LP Body Of Song. The man can rock.
- The River by Bruce Springsteen. Title track from the Boss’s magnificent 1980 album. It’s perfect.
- Later by Cat Stevens. 1973 and a track from Cat’s desperately underrated album Foreigner.
- Cracker Island by Gorillaz (feat. Thundercat). Damon Albarn’s brilliant Gorillaz with a joint from their 2023 long player, which was called … Cracker Island. Fantastic.
- Only In Your Heart by America. Beautiful track from 1972’s superb album Homecoming, which is stacked full of great songs, like Ventura Highway. The legendary Hal Blaine is on drums here, too.
- Bizarre by Madonna and Martin Garrix. Confessions II is a stunning return to form from Madge and is one of the best albums of 2026.
- Body Paint by Arctic Monkeys. Well, I adore 2022’s The Car. Here, Alex and the boys dare to be different. Brilliant.
- The Adam Adamant Theme by Kathy Kirby. Bond-like music here from the Gerald Harper TV series from 1966.
Well, that was fun. This week’s Desert Island Disc is The River by Bruce Springsteen. Of course it is.
