Hi everyone and welcome to the Friday Music Shuffle. It’s that ‘exciting’ time of the week when I set my music device free and it chooses ten random tracks from my collection. Then, I tell you the tracks it has selected and I invite you to click on the title to listen and maybe even sing along.
As ever, I hope you find something you like.
- Fire Brigade by The Move. Released on my birthday, 26th January, in 1968, this is peak brilliance Roy Wood.
- The Day That Curly Billy Shot Down Crazy Sam McGee by The Hollies. Shades of The Sweet in the chorus, Creedence throughout the whole song; here from 1974 the boys play Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress all over again.
- Friday Night by Dennis Wilson. 1977’s Pacific Ocean Blue was the finest solo Beach Boy album by some distance, certainly better than anything brother Brian came up with. Love Dennis.
- Convenience (Clean and Easy) by Gentle Giant. Back we go to 1980 and a brilliant chunk of prog rock from the Civilian album.
- Hung Up On A Dream by the Zombies. 1968 again and a track from the classic and essential Odessey and Oracle LP.
- Nous Vous Demandons Pardon by Stereolab. Brilliant from 2008’s Chemical Chords.
- Weekend Woman by Weezer. I’m very fond of Weezer. This is a belter from 2017’s Pacific Daydream.
- Espionage by Todd Rundgren and Narcy. This is just lush, from 2021’s Space Force. Always changing, always experimenting, always great. Todd is God.
- Song For Dan Treacy by MGMT. What a great band they are. This from 2010’s Congratulations. Indeed.
- This Is A Low by Blur. Simply magnificent from 1994’s Parklife.
This week’s Desert Island Disc is the exciting number ten song This Is A Low by Blur.
Hope you enjoyed that. I did. Have a good week till next week.
