Hello, good morning and welcome to the Friday Music Shuffle. It’s that fun-packed time of the week when I set my music machine free to select ten random tunes from my collection. Then, I tell you what it’s chosen. And if you thought things just couldn’t get more exciting, you can hear the tunes by clicking on the song title. I hope you do and then maybe find something new.
Hey ho let’s go.
- The Blob by The Five Blobs. Very early Bacharach/David (Mack David, Hal’s brother) from 1957 or 1958. Absolutely love it.
- Barrytown by Steely Dan. Truly wonderful from 1974’s epic Pretzel Logic.
- Submission by Sex Pistols. I still remember the shock and awe of hearing Never Mind The Bollocks back in 1977 for the first time and this track reminds me why.
- Deacon Blues by Steely Dan. Dan again. It doesn’t get any better than this. From 1977’s Aja, not just my favourite Dan album but my favourite album by anyone.
- Alleged Legends by The Streets. Back to 2008 for a banger from Everything Is Borrowed.
- Race Among The Ruins by Gordon Lightfoot. An artist I have always loved. This from 1976’s Summertime Dream.
- Living In America by Fontaines D.C. Proper belter from 2020’s excellent A Hero’s Death. One of today’s finest bands.
- Endless Wire by Gordon Lightfoot. More lush Gord music, this the title track of his 1978 long player.
- L.A. Girlz by Weezer. Back to 2016 for this joint from the album Weezer, AKA their White Album.
- Theme From A Clockwork Orange by Wendy Carlos. Just about perfect.
Some shuffle, that, but pretty well any Steely Dan song will end up as my Desert Island Disc and today it’s Deacon Blue.
Hope you enjoyed it. Have a good week till next week.
