Good day everyone and welcome to the Friday Music Shuffle, that unmissable time of the week (possibly not) where my music machine chooses ten random tracks from my collection and I tell you what it’s chosen. If you want to listen and even sing along, just click on the song title.
I hope you find something you like.
- The State We’re In by The Chemical Brothers. Not your normal Chemicals, here, but what a beauty from the excellent Come with Us long player, from 2002. Let’s chill.
- Are You Being Served? by Matt Berry. Yes, THAT Are You Being Served, a neat cover of the old classic from Matt Berry’s 2018 fun album Television Themes.
- Big Shot by the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band. Some wonderful madness from 1967’s Gorilla.
- Tombstone Shadow by Creedence Clearwater Revival. Still in the 1960s for this track from the band’s brilliant Green River.
- Satellite by Oceanlab. Old skool (as da yoot says) Trance from 20 years ago. Mint.
- I’m Not My Season (Solstice Version) by Fleet Foxes. Achingly beautiful track from 2021’s A Very Lonely Solstice. Robin Pecknold’s voice never sounded better.
- Takin’ Care Of Business by Bachman-Turner Overdrive. 50 years have passed by since BTO II was released and I reckon this is still great.
- Detroit by Gaz Coombes. The Supergrass man’s 2015 album Matador is fantastic. This is why.
- Secretary Song by The Go! Team. This is from 2011’s Rolling Blackouts LP and very lovely it is too from Brighton’s finest.
- I’ll Never Fall In Love Again by Bobbie Gentry. Bobbie Gentry may have been my first teenage, or maybe even pre-teenage, crush. Easily the best version and performance of this song. What a voice.
This week’s Desert Island Disc was in doubt until the very last song. I’ll Never Fall In Love Again by Bobbie Gentry strolls it.
Hope you enjoyed that.
Have a good week ’til next week.
