Good morning pop pickers and welcome to the Friday Music Shuffle, that exciting (?) time of the week when my music device chooses ten random songs from my collection and I tell you what it has chosen. To listen and sing along, just click on the song title.
Hope you find something you like.
- Insomniac’s Lullaby by Paul Simon. Well, it’s Paul Simon, isn’t it, from 2016’s Stranger to Stranger. Music doesn’t get much better.
- Soak Up The Sun by Sheryl Crow. All the way back to 2002 and this belter from Sheryl’s C’mon, C’mon long player. Lush video, mind.
- Changes by David Bowie. Christ – 1971, rock’s greatest year; this from the brilliant Hunky Dory.
- 15th Brigade by Joe Strummer. I have no idea about the history of this brilliant song, which appears on the equally brilliant Joe compilation Joe Strummer 001. I know a man who will! Amazing.
- Every Beat Of My Heart by Gladys Knight and the Pips. Fun fact: I had an auntie called Gladys, who wasn’t really my auntie. It wasn’t the wonderful Ms Knight, though, sadly. This, GK and her Pips’ debut single from 1961.
- Lady Love by Michael Nesmith. From old woolhat Monkee Michael’s 1972 album And the Hits Just Keep On Comin‘. So talented.
- Breathless by Todd Rundgren. Lush instrumental from Todd’s epic 1972 album Something/Anything?, which also gave us I Saw The Light and Hello It’s Me.
- Saturday Night Inside Out by The Avalanches. From 2016’s brilliant Wildflower, featuring the late, great David Berman and Josh ‘Father John Misty’ Tillman.
- Play It Cool by Super Furry Animals. Hard to believe that the band’s superb Radiator came out in 1997. Still great.
- I Don’t Want To Hear Any More by The Eagles. Some amiable filler from the band’s final album, Long Road Out Of Eden, written by Paul Carrack. I don’t want to hear any more from the Eagles to be honest.
This week’s Desert Island Disc is the exciting number three song, Changes by David Bowie. (Song 11 would have been Fat Man In The Bath Tub by Little Feat, which frankly would have pissed it to the Desert Island Disc choice, but there you go.)
Have a good week ’til next week.
