The Friday Music Shuffle (14.3.25)

by Rick Johansen

Hi everyone and welcome to the Friday Music Shuffle. It’s that time of the week when I set my music device free and it chooses ten random songs from my collection and I tell you what it’s chosen.

Music, as you might have guessed, plays a vital role in my life, none more so in what has been a very difficult week, which you can read about here.

I hope you find something you like.

  1. Mr Tambourine Man by Bob Dylan. Know this one? You should do. It’s 60 years old.
  2. Sights by London Grammar. This is gorgeous. From 2014’s American Soil.
  3. EU (Emotionally Unavailable) by Nérija. Fantastic alt jazz (my description) from their 2019 album Blume.
  4. Your Gold Teeth II by Steely Dan. From the Dan’s 1975 LP Katy Lied. As ever, it’s just about perfect.
  5. Somebody Must Be Wrong by The Souther-Hillman-Furay Band. 50 years old, this gem, from their excellent album Trouble In Paradise.
  6. Cinema Paradiso by Ennio Morricone. If you ever saw this movie and didn’t cry, you are not human.
  7. The Wild Whaling Life by BrhyM. An astonishing collaboration between Bruce Hornsby and yMusic. This from their 2024 album Deep Sea Vents.
  8. Love Like A Sunset Part II by Phoenix. Short, sweet and rather lovely from 2009’s Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix.
  9. Andy, You’re A Star by The Killers. This is from the band’s first album Hot Fuss, released in 2004. I prefer this version of The Killers to the sterile touring heritage jukebox they have become.
  10. Girl From Mars by Ash. Classic Ash from 1996’s 1977, if you get my drift.

This week’s Desert Island Disc is the exciting number ten song Girl From Mars by Ash,

Have a good week till next week.
