Greetings, pop-pickers and welcome to the Friday Music Shuffle. That ‘exciting’ time of the week where my music device selects ten songs from my collection and I tell the world what it’s chosen. All you need to do to listen is to click on the song title.
I hope you play along and find some music you like.
- This Masquerade by Leon Russell. I’d almost forgotten what a great album 1972’s Carney was and indeed remains. This is a beautiful song.
- Sink Like A Stone by Delays. The death of the brilliant Greg Gilbert at the age of 44 deprived the world of a great musical talent. This banger from 2006’s You See Colours illustrates what a fine band they were.
- Using Our Feet by Badly Drawn Boy. Back to 2002 and a great track from Damon Gough’s superb Have You Fed The Fish long player.
- This Is Your Life by The Killers. Not the former Thames television programme but a decent joint from 2008’s Day & Age.
- Peace by Weezer. Unmistakable Rivers Cuomo and the chaps from 2005’s fine LP Make Believe.
- One Of Us by Abba. Pop perfection, with added reggae influence.
- Wishbone by Stealers Wheel. Back a mere 50 years for this track which features on their album Right Or Wrong. Gerry Rafferty, innit.
- Northern Sky by Nick Drake. My God, he was so talented. This from 1970’s Bryter Later.
- For Those About To Rock (We Salute You) by AC/DC. Title track of the band’s classic 1981 long player. Turn it up. Way up.
- Guess I’m Dumb by The Wondermints. Oh my. What a cover of this Brian Wilson/Ross Titelman tune written in 1965 and first recorded by Glen Campbell. This version from the band’s 1996 album Wonderful World of the Wondermints.
This week’s Desert Island Disc would have been One Of Us by Abba until Guess I’m Dumb by The Wondermints turned up.
Have a good week till next week.
