The Friday Jukebox 27/11

by Rick Johansen

Hi pop pickers! (One for the kids, there!)

It’s time for the Friday iPod shuffle, with added pretentious waffle!

1. Misty Blue by the Proclaimers. I’m not comparing them in any way with the Everly Brothers, in terms of quality or even music, but they give me the same warm feeling inside as Phil and Don.

2. This Old Guitar by Neil Young. Shades of Harvest Moon, this one’s on the Prairie Wind album.

3. Brand New Cadillac by the Clash. London Calling remains one of the most important albums of all time by one of the most important bands of all time.

4. Songs of Love by Stephen Stills. Manassas was a great band and album, Stills was and remains a top guitar player.

5. Cheer Up Boys (Your Make Up Is Running) by the Foo Fighters. Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace. Good old Dave!

6. Going For The One by Yes. From the album of the same name, this was the classic Yes line up. And as it’s Prog Rock, only five tracks!

7. Do You Wanna Dance by the Beach Boys. Live At the Paramount and not one of their finest moments, if I am being honest. But then again this was not my favourite Beach Boys era.

8. It Was Supposed Be So Easy by the Streets. A Grand Don’t Come For Free, Mike Skinner’s brilliance at its peak.

9. Twist and Shout by the Isley Brothers. Classic 60s fare from a great band.

10. White Light, White Heat by the Velvet Underground. From 1968!
