Setting my iPod and sound dock free, here’s this week’s random top ten, pop pickers.
1. Coronation Street by James Wright and his Orchestra. I’m not sure this is actually the original version, but it’s on iTunes for some bizarre reason.
2. The Ascent of Man by REM. From their less than stellar live album, a less than stellar version of a not at all bad song.
3. London Calling by the Clash. More live music, this from From Here to Eternity.
4. Hold On by Take That. A tidy Mark Owen tune from Beautiful World, easily TT’s best album.
5. Losing Touch by Albert Hammond Jr. The Strokes axeman here with a track from his excellent Momentary Masters record which sounds like the band without Julian Casablancas.
6. Under Pressure by David Bowie and Queen. There’s a whole Queen album on my iPod – not my fault, guv – and because of the presence on this song of Bowie, it’s the least worst Queen song, but not by much. Awful, awful music.
7. Muita Bobeira by Luciana Souza. From an album called Duos II, which I didn’t know I had (maybe I don’t?) nor do I have any idea of who or what Luciana is or was.
8. Add Some Music to your Day by the Beach Boys. This little beauty comes from the Boys best band album, Sunflower, after Pet Sounds, that is, which was more of a Brian Wilson album featuring sundry BBs.
9. Ramblin’ Gamblin’ Man by Sammy Hagar. Cracking cover of an old Bob Seger tune by one of the great rock singers of our age.
10. It’s not the end of the world by the Super Furry Animals. From the magnificent Rings around the World album, this is Gruff at somewhere near his best.
