That Friday morning music shuffle (22/4)

by Rick Johansen

It’s time to let that iPod bang out some random tunes. Let’s see what random music pops up today!

1. Keep It Comin’ Love by KC and the Sunshine Band. Absolutely unmistakably Harry Casey (KC, geddit?) and his band. This is the way I like it. Uh huh.

2. Lose Yourself to Dance by Daft Punk ft Pharrell Williams. Pretty well the only lyrics of the song are Lose Yourself to Dance. Lovely.

3. Waltz (You know it makes sense) by Steealers Wheel. You know instantly it’s Gerry Rafferty singing and it’s great to remember he did much more than Stuck in the middle with you. This is really sweet.

4. Surely by Carole King. For anyone who hasn’t heard a Carole album apart from Tapestry, try Music. Beautiful.

5. The Good Life by Tony Bennett. Near perfection, I reckon!

6. Moodido by Toto. It’s a vehicle for Steve Lukather’s insanely wonderful guitar playing. It’s on the Essential Toto album, but I’d say it’s pretty inessential!

7. State of Independence by Donna Summer. Allow me to tell you a secret: as a young man I was deeply in lust with Ms Summer. She made some great records but none better than this blinding cover of the Jon Anderson and Vangelis tune.

8. Biting the soles of my feet by the Electric Soft Parade. Brighton’s finest!

9. Receptacle for the respectable by Super Furry Animals. From the truly wondrous Rings Around the World

10. Scarecrow Song by Lindisfarne. Alan Hull, one of the finest writers this land ever produced.
