So here it is, (the Merry Christmas bit omitted) everybody’s having fun, at least until they see the results of my Sunday afternoon random iPod shuffle.
Here goes:
1. Looking Back by Nat King Cole. That’s a nice start.
2. Don’t Cry Blue by Jonathan Edwards. No, not the triple jumper, the folk music chap. “I’ll walk with you this morning and I’ll sleep with you tonight”, sings Jonathan. A nice sentiment, don’t you agree?
3. Cold Water Music by Aim. I think I’ve got this one on about half a dozen Chilled Ibiza type albums. You’ll know it when you hear it and when you hear it you will imagine cold water running all over you on a hot day in San Antonio. Possibly.
4. Shiny Happy People by REM. A song omitted from an early Best Of compilation on the grounds that the band didn’t like it. I did, though, especially given the appearance of the lovely Kate Pearson from the B52s.
5. She’s Not There by the Zombies. The original and best version of an all time classic, although Santana deserved an A for getting close.
6. Scarecrow Song by Lindisfarne. Classic Alan Hull. So badly missed.
7. A Certain Girl by Warren Zevon. The criminally underrated Werewolves of London man
8. 3000 miles from here by Ian Hunter. The man from Mott.
9. American Dream by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Very Young. “Don’t know where things went wrong. Must have been when you were young and strong.”
10. Hold The Line by Toto. There are only three Toto songs that ever appear on the radio. Africa, Rosanna and this one. All good, but so much more in the back catalogue.
