Seconds beat Old Bristolians shocker!

by Rick Johansen

The second XI, minus supremo the Sheriff John Black, away in Cornwall helping to deprive locals of the few remaining pasties in the south west, stormed to an unlikely victory at the field by 4 runs against Old Bristolians.

Predictably, the village started abysmally, tumbling to 3-2 after 4 overs.

Acting captain Mark Stephens (59) scratched a half-decent 18 before getting out.

Lewis Jefferies hung around for a bit as Nathan Daniels scored an impressive 49.

The rest of the lads hung around too setting the visitors 119 to win.

Gorgeous, pouting Sharon Stephens provided a huge banquet for tea and the opposition obviously over-indulged.

Pearcey bowled well from one end and Harry Black seemed either to bowl wides or take wickets.

Near the end, Stephens restored himself to the attack and promptly bowled a beamer at the opposition’s youngest player!

Harry Black was brought back at the death with Old Bris needing a handful of runs to win.

“Don’t bowl any more wides!” cried an ashen-faced Brian Long from the boundary whereupon Black bowled two of them.

Then he took a wicket leaving the opposition to score 4 runs with one wicket remaining.

Black took his seventh (for fuck’s sake) – seventh! – wicket amid 23 wides and the village had won by 4 runs.

Man of the match – Stefan Johansen for his suicidal near run out (of himself) and an impressive unbeaten 1.
