My self-indulgent playlist shuffle (28.4.24)

by Rick Johansen

I’ve got several playlists on my musical device, including one industrial-sized playlist featuring some of my favourite songs. For reasons I won’t go into, this has been a very difficult weekend and I am playing music and, because I can, I am going to share ten songs from my massive playlist.

If you want to listen and even sing along, just click on the tune!

  1. Go! by Common. Despite the involvement of Kanye West, this is a brilliant chunk of hip hop from 2005.
  2. Topknot by Cornershop ft Bubbley Kaur. Unbelievably beautiful joint from 2004.
  3. Charity by Courtney Barnett. God, I love Courtney Barnett. This from 2018’s Tell Me How You Really Feel.
  4. Heavy Seas Of Love by Damon Albarn. Back to 2014 and, well, I’m running out of superlatives. Fucking brilliant.
  5. Dreamtime by Daryl Hall. Even without John Oates, Daryl is still just great.
  6. It’s Over, If We Run Out Of Love by David Holmes ft Raven Violet. Let this bugger wash all over you.
  7. Long Time Coming by Delays. 2004’s Faded Seaside Glamour is one of my favourite albums ever. And this is just pure greatness.
  8. The Dominatrix Sleeps Tonight by Dominatrix . Back a ridiculous 40 years for this absolute classic.
  9. The Driver by Drive-By Truckers. Bad ass southern rock from 2022’s stellar album Welcome 2 Club XIII.
  10. Letter Of Intent by Ducktails. A great band made even greater by the addition of Jessa Farkas singing lead. I can’t begin to tell you how much I love this.

Desert Island Disc? Are you kidding? Everything on this playlist counts for this edition of the show, which will last days.

Apologies for the indulgence, but music helps.
